Hunter is an American crime series starring Fred Dryer and Stepfanie Kramer . It was produced by Stephen J. Cannell from 1984 to 1991 and aired on NBC .

Sergeant Rick Hunter and Sergeant Dee Dee McCall are partners on the Los Angeles Homicide Squad. Here you are dealing with a wide variety of perpetrators, from kidnappers to police murderers. Her boss changes at short intervals at first, but is later Captain Charlie Devane for several years. As informants on the street, Hunter and McCall work with the petty thugs Sporty James and Dee Dees, to whom they owe many helpful tips. Since McCall gets married after six years and Hunter is transferred, Joanne Malinski and Chris Novak become his new partners one after the other and for a short time each.

The main location of the 152 episodes was Los Angeles . In 1985, a 13-part series called Hunter with James Franciscus and Linda Evans in the leading roles was shown on Sat.1 . In 1995 a "Hunter" television film with Dryer and Hallahan was made, which Sat.1 showed in 1997. After an eight-year break, another film was made in 2002, which was continued with another production in 2003. In the same year the series was reissued, but already discontinued after five episodes.

Awards (selection)

The series was nominated for an Emmy from 1987 to 1989 in the “Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series” category. The composers Mike Post and Pete Carpenter won a BMI TV Music Award in 1989 for their music.
