Mike Post (* 29 September 1944 in Berkeley , California ; born Leland Michael Postil ) is an American composer and music producer .

biography

Post was born the son of an architect in Berkeley. At the age of 23, the multiple award-winning composer won a Grammy in 1968 for the " Best Instrumental Arrangement " of Mason Williams ' Classical Gas .

In the 1960s, he worked with Kenny Rogers together and produced the first three albums , which he and his country - band The First Edition had added. One of his first television jobs was as musical director of The Andy Williams Show at the age of 24.

In the early 1970s, Post began writing the theme music for television series , working with Pete Carpenter from the beginning until his death in the mid-1980s . He made his big breakthrough in 1974 - together with Carpenter - with the theme music for the television series Detective Rockford - a call is enough (English The Rockford Files ) by producer Stephen J. Cannell . The music was so successful that it made it to number 10 on the US singles chart. It also earned him his second Grammy Award .

In 1984, Post was awarded a “ Golden Raspberry ” for the arrangement and as the conductor of the film music for Die Senkrechtstarter (English Rhinestone ) - together with Dolly Parton (original music and text) .

Post was also responsible for the production of the Van Halen album Van Halen III (1998).
