The sky dogs of Boragora (original title: Tales of the Gold Monkey ) is an American action , espionage and adventure series . It was produced by Universal Television for the US broadcaster ABC and comprises a season with 22 episodes.

action

Jake Cutter is a former fighter pilot who operated a small airline on the fictional island of Boragora, part of the Marivella archipelago in the South Pacific , in 1938 . He wears the Flying Tigers badge on his worn leather jacket , a relic from his past as a mercenary .

His partners are his best friend Corky and the one-eyed Jack Russell Terrier Jack , whose jeweled eye Jake lost at a game and who therefore has to wear an eye patch. With his plane Grumman Goose he transports smuggled goods from island to island or rescues kidnapped travelers. German soldiers, Japanese spies or even South Sea pirates sometimes get in his way.

A popular meeting place on Boragora is the Monkey Bar , which is owned by the noble French magistrate Bon Chance Louis . The beautiful singer Sarah , who is actually an American spy , sings there every evening . Jack, who lives in a small room above the bar, is the only one who knows about her true identity.

Charisma

In the United States, the series began broadcasting on ABC on September 22, 1982 with the two-hour pilot Tales of the Gold Monkey . Regular broadcasting began a week later on September 29, 1982 and ended on April 8, 1983 after a total of 21 episodes. However, almost two months later, on June 1st, the last episode was shown. Since the ratings of the series could not cover the high production costs, the series was discontinued after a season.

The German private broadcaster RTLplus only added the series to its program eight years after it was first broadcast in the US . After the pilot film was broadcast on September 17, 1990, the remaining episodes were broadcast on Fridays from September 21. However, the broadcaster did not pay attention to the production sequence. B. after the pilot, first the tenth episode, then the fourth episode and only then the regular second episode was shown. Since the complete repetition from September 1992 to January 1993, the series was not shown again on German television.
