Donald Paul Bellisario (born August 8, 1935 in Cokeburg or North Charleroi , Pennsylvania ) is an American screenwriter , director and film producer .

Life

Bellisario was born in the US state of Pennsylvania in 1935. His mother Dana Lapcevic came from Serbia and his father Albert Bellisario from Italy. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959 . He studied journalism and worked as a copywriter. He later rose to become vice president of a large advertising agency. In 1975 he went to Hollywood to work in the film industry. His success began in 1978 when he wrote eight scripts for Battlestar Galactica , then the script for an episode of Pacific Squadron 214 , and then took over the production of the series.

Bellisario is the inventor of successful series such as JAG , Navy CIS , Back to the Past ( Quantum Leap ), Tequila and Bonetti , Airwolf and Magnum (together with Glen A. Larson ). Along with David E. Kelley , Stephen J. Cannell and Glen A. Larson, he is one of the most successful contemporary series authors.

On March 2, 2004, the successful producer received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame , which can be seen in an episode of JAG . In addition to guest appearances, Bellisario has often directed his series, which he usually also produces. He also places family members in the productions. His son Michael Bellisario played in several episodes as midshipman Michael Roberts at JAG and played Charles 'Chip' Sterling in the series Navy CIS . Bellisario's daughter Troian Bellisario also played Timothy McGee's (played by Sean Murray ) sister Sarah McGee. Sean Murray, in turn, is Donald Bellisario's stepson. His younger stepson, Chad W. Murray, is also involved in the production of Navy CIS and can also be seen in a series. Additionally, his son David is a producer for JAG , Navy CIS and Navy CIS: LA

In 2007, Bellisario left the production of NCIS because of a disagreement with lead actor Mark Harmon . Although he has not been actively involved in the production since then, he retained the title of executive producer. His successors were Chas. Floyd Johnson and Shane Brennan .

Donald P. Bellisario is married for the fourth time and has seven children.
