The Gloria Siderum was a heavy lift ship , which was built in 1969 in the Netherlands from two existing coasters .

History and details

The Gloria Siderum was built at the De Groot & van Vliet shipyard in Slikkerveer for the shipping company C. Holscher's Kustvaartbedrijf from Rotterdam. The conversion or assembly arose from the two coasters Hermes (IMO 514914) and Hada II (IMO 513945) with load capacities of 850 and 913 tons, which were also built by Groot & van Vliet in 1956 and 1957 and were roughly the same size . The two 8.9 meter wide Kümos were welded to a heavy cargo catamaran with a 2.7 m wide connector . After the renovation, the total length was 56.5 meters and the total width 20.56 meters. A 300 ton heavy lift crane was erected on deck. The capacity of the catamaran was 1900 tons. The ship was also equipped with a lifting device for heavy goods with a lifting capacity of 300 tons. The propulsion systems remained unchanged; the ship was powered by two 440 kW diesel engines .

After the collapse of the Holscher shipping company on October 12, 1983, Atlantic Offshore Service & Shipping Co. from Willemstad acquired the ship and used it for the Multi Services Shipping Company from Panama as Multi Service 300 for tasks in the offshore industry. Ten years later the Multi Service 300 was scrapped in Amsterdam.
