Pazifikgeschwader 214 (original title Baa Baa Black Sheep , later during the Syndication Black Sheep Squadron ) is an American television series directed by Stephen J. Cannell , which was filmed between 1976 and 1978. It consists of 36 episodes in two seasons, which were broadcast on NBC television. It was based on the book by Gregory Boyington , who was a successful fighter pilot during World War II .
action
The "Marine Fighter Squadron 214" ( VMF-214 Black sheep ) of the United States Marine Corps consists of outsiders, nerves, thugs and other conspicuous young pilots who have exceptional flying skills on the Chance Vought F4U Corsair fighter aircraft . Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington - himself an outsider who doesn't believe in rules - is the commander of the aviation unit and has saved his pilots from court martial.
The "black sheep" were stationed on the island of Vella La Cava in the Pacific during World War II . In the second season, a group of nurses moves into the island.
The main points of the plot are individual air war missions against the Japanese enemy in the South Pacific. The sometimes unconventional execution of orders, the resourceful circumnavigation of typical military regulations, but also the boundary conditions of the mission determine the action of the individual episodes.
