Robert Ginty

Robert Winthrop Ginty (born November 14, 1948 in Brooklyn , New York , † September 21, 2009 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor , director and screenwriter.

Life

Robert Ginty studied acting at Yale University and came to Broadway through local theaters , where he played various supporting roles in Stephen Porter's revival of Molière's Don Juan between 1972 and 1973 . After moving to California in the mid-1970s, he received his first guest roles in the television series Detective Rockford - a call is enough and make-up and pistols . Between 1976 and 1978 he played one of the leading roles in the series Pazifikgeschwader 214 , then he was seen in 22 episodes of The Paper Chase until 1979 . In 1978 he had his first major feature film role in the Oscar-winning Vietnam drama Coming Home . Two years later, The Exterminator appeared with Ginty in the lead role, followed by a sequel four years later.

During the 1980s, Ginty took on guest roles on hit series such as Love Boat and Knight Rider, and had recurring roles in Simon & Simon and Falcon Crest . In the late 1980s he founded his own production company and from then on worked mainly as a director and occasionally as a screenwriter. In addition to some B-movies , he also shot some episodes of series such as Xena , Superman - The Adventures of Lois & Clark and Nash Bridges .

Ginty died in 2009 at the age of 60 years the consequences of cancer . He was married for the third time; his only son is James Ginty , who also works as an actor.
