The American television series Nash Bridges , starring Don Johnson , is about Nash Bridges, the head of the fictional Special Investigation Unit (SIU), an elite unit of the San Francisco Police Department .
The television series consists of six seasons with 122 episodes, which were filmed in the years 1996 to 2001. The first broadcast on German television was on October 6, 1996 on RTL II .

action
Nash Bridges and his partner and friend Joe Dominguez work at SIU in San Francisco, supported by their colleagues Harvey Leek and the young Evan Cortez. In later episodes, Nash's daughter Cassidy also works at the SIU, initially with doubts from Nash, who would like his daughter to have a less dangerous job.
In the series, Nash and Joe repeatedly meet old friends. The two are considered a couple in the San Francisco gay scene due to various mix-ups.
In addition to working at SIU, Joe Dominguez has a variety of side jobs to supplement his salary. For example, he runs a bar for a while or later solves cases of various clients together with Nash Bridges as a detective.
But also a number of secondary characters make the plot a colorful collection of different quirks . These include Harvey Leek, a competent cop with a grateful dead bandage, Evan Cortez, who wears sideburns and has a punch on women, especially Nash's daughter Cassidy. Nash's father Nick is also represented and often causes confusion with Joe. Every now and then, other people come into contact with the cast, e.g. B. Boz Bishop, a white man who acts like a black man, Pepe, a gay bureaucratic genie, or Angel, a homeless man who always wears a white shirt and slightly dirty wings and sees himself as Nash's guardian angel.
equipment
Nash's car
In the series, Nash mostly drives his yellow 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda Convertible , which he takes special care of because it actually belongs to his brother Bobby. However, this has been missing since the Vietnam War. Nash believed he was killed in a helicopter crash. In two later episodes he reappears as a criminal, gives Nash the Cuda and is ultimately shot in a drug cartel dispute.
In the series, in addition to a real 426 'Cuda Convertible (for close-ups), up to twelve different copies (340 or 383) are used for driving scenes, chases or stunts.
The rumor that there are only seven 71 'Cuda stems from a translation error and the lack of knowledge about these vehicles in Germany. This number refers solely to the 71 426 HEMI Convertible. To make matters worse, the Nash-'Cuda is one with 4-speed manual transmission , so the number of units should be even lower , because these cars were usually automatic vehicles (allegedly there are two 4-speed Hemi Cuda convertibles from the Years 1971 and five with automatic transmission.). Of the other engines (340 Magnum, 383 Magnum, 440 SixPack), however, some 100 were built.
In the car there are also certain rules that Bobby imposed on his brother before he went to Vietnam. For example, it is not allowed to eat in it (much to the chagrin of his partner Joe Dominguez).
The dashlight (blue light behind the windshield) is a dashmiser with halogen bulbs from Whelen and is kept on the passenger side of the car when it is not in use. A siren is not installed in the car.
Nash's weapon
The pistol that Nash Bridges carries is a heavily modified Colt M1911 pistol . The pistol uses .38 Super Auto ammunition instead of the usual .45 ACP ammunition, which is smaller in diameter but has a higher magazine capacity. The penetration power of the .38 SA is also higher, as it reaches projectile speeds of up to 475 m / s, which also operates the compensator on this pistol more effectively.
