Elia Cmíral

Elia David Cmíral (born October 1, 1950 in Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech composer .

Life

Elia David Cmíral was born the son of an actress and the grandson of a professor at the Prague Academy of Music in an artistic environment full of literature, music and drama. And after he tried to compose his first symphony at the age of 11, it was his stepfather who was himself a theater director and engaged him for the first time as a composer at the age of 18 for his theater production about the French writer Cyrano de Bergerac . He then studied composition at the Prague Conservatory before emigrating to Sweden in 1980 , where he spent a year studying electronic music at the Electronic Music Studio (EMS) in Stockholm. From there he went to the USA in 1987 to take part in the composition program of the University of Southern California . After graduating, he received offers from Sweden to write film music again, which is why he returned, but not before he wrote the score for the thriller Apartment Zero within 10 days .

After composing in Sweden for Flickan vid stenbänken , Rosenholm and Barnens Detektivbyrå , among others , he returned to the USA in 1993, where he had his greatest success to date with the action thriller Ronin , in which he replaced Jerry Goldsmith as composer. This was followed by other action, horror, mystery films and thrillers such as Wrong Turn , Species III , Pulse - You're Dead Before You Die and Piranha 2 .

Cmíral is married to a Japanese woman with whom he has a daughter.
