The Elektronmusikstudion ( EMS ) is a recording studio for electronic music in Stockholm .

history

It was founded in 1964 by Karl-Birger Blomdahl , the music director of Sveriges Radio , based on the model of the Cologne studio for electronic music . The first director was the Norwegian composer Knut Wiggen . He invited pioneers of electronic music such as Gottfried Michael Koenig , Iannis Xenakis and Henri Pousseur to Stockholm as teachers. In 1969 the studio broke away from the Swedish Radio and became independent. The studio has been affiliated with Statens musikverk since 2011 .

At the EMS, u. a. Michael Obst , Klaus Ager , Andor Losonczy , Wolfgang Mitterer , Michael Matthews , George Brunner and Sabine Vogel .
