Gottfried Michael Koenig
Gottfried Michael Koenig (born October 5, 1926 in Magdeburg ) is a German composer .
Life
After a humanistic grammar school, private music studies ( piano , violin , organ ) and first attempts at composition, I studied music in Braunschweig ( state music school , seminar for church music ), Detmold ( north-west German music academy , composition, piano, analysis, acoustics) and Cologne ( music college , institute for music) -technical design).
From 1954 to 1964 he worked in the studio for electronic music of the NWDR (later WDR ) in Cologne and worked with Karlheinz Stockhausen and many other domestic and foreign composers. This period also includes teaching assignments at the Cologne University of Music (electronic music, composition, analysis) and the composition of electronic music ( sound figures I / II, essay , term 1 ) and instrumental works (piano pieces, woodwind quintet , string quartet ).
From 1964 to 1986 he was artistic director of the studio for electronic music (later "Institute for Sonology") at the University of Utrecht (Netherlands) and gave countless lectures at home and abroad. He received a teaching position in sonology and studied programming languages at the University of Bonn . - Further electronic ( term 2 , functions series, polychromy ) and instrumental compositions ( exercise for piano , 3 ASKO pieces , segments series, contribution , string quartet, string trio) and the development of computer programs for compositional strategies ( project 1/2, SSP ) followed.
From 1991 to 2007 his collected writings were titled Aesthetic Practice. Texts on music published in six volumes by Pfau-Verlag. In the winter semester 2002/2003 he was visiting professor for algorithmic composition at the TU Berlin . "Terminus II / Funktion Grün" was included in The Wire's legendary wirelist "100 Records That Set The World On Fire (While No One Was Listening)" .

- 2010: Giga Hertz Prize for electronic music from the Center for Art and Media Technology , Karlsruhe
- 2016: Elected member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts
Gottfried Michael Koenig is an honorary member of the German Society for Electroacoustic Music .
