Piranha 3D

Piranha 2 (original title Piranha 3DD ) is a US-based 3D - horror comedy from the year 2012 and the continuation of Piranha 3D .

action

A year after the piranha attacks on Lake Victoria, a campaign to eradicate the lake was launched. Since then the land has been uninhabitable and the city lost tourism due to the drying up of its main source of income. Two farmers fish on a nearby lake. They find a dead cow lying in the lake. Inside the cow, the farmers find eggs from piranhas that are just hatching and killing the farmers.

Maddy, a biology student, returns home to her stepfather's water park for the summer. She realizes with horror that her stepfather Chet has turned the water park into a strip landscape. In the evening at a party at the water park, Maddy meets some old friends, including her ex-boyfriend Kyle Knight, a police officer and Barry, who is secretly in love with Maddy. She also meets her two best friends, Ashley and Shelby. Shelby and her boyfriend Josh go nude bathing in the lake, where a piranha swims in Shelby's vagina . Meanwhile, Ashley and her boyfriend Travis have sex in their car. Ashley accidentally releases the handbrake, causing the van to roll into the lake. Ashley and Travis are then attacked and killed by piranhas.

The next day, Maddy comforts Shelby after the two have learned that Ashley has disappeared without a trace. While they are sitting on a jetty, they are attacked by a swarm of piranhas. They manage to kill you. Maddy, Kyle and Barry go to see Mr. Goodman together. He informs them that the piranhas can move between the lakes via sewer pipes and underground rivers. Upon returning to the lake, they discover that the piranhas have not found a way into the drainage pipes of the water park. While Shelby and Josh have sex, the piranha in Shelby's vagina bites Josh's penis and forces him to cut it off with a knife. Both are admitted to the hospital. Meanwhile, Kyle turns out to be a corrupt cop who helped Chet build pumps between an underground river and the water park.

The next day the Big Wet opens . First guests include Deputy Fallon, who survived the first piranha attack but lost his legs, and former cameraman Andrew Cunningham. As the duo tries to overcome their fear of the water, David Hasselhoff shows up as a celebrity in the park. After discovering that there is a connection between the park and the underground river, Maddy tries to close the water park, but is stopped by Chet and Kyle. But the piranhas have already made their way into the area and attack the bathers and kill them. Fallon puts on a shotgun prosthesis to save the visitors, while David Hasselhoff rescues a little boy named David and is happy to finally become a real lifeguard. In the chaos, Chet tries to escape, but is beheaded by a cable hanging too low.

Meanwhile, Barry runs into the technical room to drain the water from the pools. Maddy tries to save as many people as possible, but the suction of the running water pulls her to the bottom of the pool. After Kyle refuses to help her, Barry jumps after her, even though he can't swim, and brings her back to the surface. He manages to revive Maddy and the two kiss.

Another employee, Big Dave, pours gasoline into the pipes and lights it. The resulting explosion kills most of the piranhas, while Kyle is killed by a falling trident. The survivors celebrate their victory against the piranhas. When Maddy receives a call from Mr. Goodman, she learns that the piranhas have evolved and are now able to move on land. The film ends when a piranha tears off the head of the child, David, who was rescued by Hasselhoff.

Reviews

On the Rotten Tomatoes page , out of 47 reviews, only 13 percent were viewed as positive. 25 percent of the audience voted for the film.

“The funny splatter joke Piranha 3D was a surprisingly entertaining genre boom at the time, which rightly had the laughs on its side and impressed with self-confidence and charm. Of course, Alexandre Aja's fish horror was actually a lot of nonsense, but at least the director knew that he wasn't making a film for eternity, but for a beery evening. So all inhibitions went overboard, genres were cheerfully crossed and spiced with plenty of bare skin and a few guest appearances by porn stars. And in the end, Aja organized a harmoniously staged trash festival with perfect timing, in which no eye remained dry and no part of the body remained on the torso. Even if the discussion about the meaningfulness of the wanted trash was already going on back then, Aja got away with his piranha infusion again. At the same time it was clear that this mix of hard-Gore excesses and ice lolly -Klamauk can hardly as successful repeat would. That's exactly what Aja substitute John Gulager is trying to do with Piranha 3DD - an attempt that backfires thoroughly. "

“If the first film was a pearl of trash, the sequel (at least cleverly titled Piranha 3DD in the original ) is by and large just trash. While the animal horror and comedy elements were still in balance in the first film, in the second part this clearly tilts towards comedy, or much more towards parody. In fact, Piranha 2 has more in common with Scary Movie than with actual horror. "
