William Gary Busey (born June 29, 1944 in Goose Creek , Texas ) is an American actor .

Life

Gary Busey graduated from high school in Tulsa , Oklahoma . He first studied at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg , where his interest in acting began. He moved to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater , which he left a year before graduation.

Busey was initially seen in small roles in the late 1960s. In the 1970s he starred in television programs such as the television series Bonanza and minor roles in various television and feature films. Busey was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Buddy Holly in The Buddy Holly Story (1978) . Further appearances in film and television followed, where he appears in a wide variety of genres. He made well-known film appearances in Lethal Weapon - Two Steel-Hard Professionals (1987), Dangerous Surf (1991) and Red Alert (1992). Since the late 1990s, appearances in B-films and direct-to-video productions increased.

His work includes more than 170 productions.

Private

Busey suffered a serious brain injury in a serious motorcycle accident on December 4, 1988 when he hit the curb head first without a helmet . He was then treated at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, which he left at his own request after only five weeks.

Busey was married twice. His son Jake Busey is also an actor.
