Steel Sharks - survival is her goal (alternative title: U 577 - survival is her goal , original title Steel Sharks) is an American action film by the director Rodney McDonald from 1997 . It stars Gary Busey , Billy Dee Williams and Billy Warlock .
action
The top chemical weapons expert, Dr. John Van Tasell, kidnapped by enemy Iranian agents. Admiral Jim Perry receives the order to bring back the man with the "Steel Sharks" - a fearless and highly explosive bunch of absolute elite fighters. They are joined by the computer crack Bob "Billy" Rogers. The Navy SEALs do not immediately accept the new team member and initially make life difficult for him. On board the nuclear submarine USS Oakland (SSN-798), under the command of "Wild" Bill McKay, the squad is brought to the enemy coast.
The liberation operation succeeds at first, but on the way back they are met by an unscrupulous captain and his brutal security officer Lt. Noussavi captured and taken hostage aboard an Iraqi submarine.
The USS Oakland is very close, but should Bill McKay shell the Iraqi submarine, that would mean the death of the Steel Sharks.
The mad commander of the Iraqi submarine has no scruples about getting the soldiers to talk. When the first of them is gunned down, the rest of the force plans to break out. It is an advantage to have a scientist with you who can make bombs out of normal kitchen utensils.
The soldiers can free themselves, decimate the crew and lay the submarine to rubble and ashes.

reception
The lexicon of international films writes: “Poor action film with woodcut-like characters, pithy dialogues and laughable special effects. The synchronization, which 'puts pseudo-Russian and Arabic accents in the mouth' of the enemies, provides additional amusement. "
The online magazine video.de judges: "For video premieres, it is a considerably elaborate action riot [...] There is plenty of action, stunts and fire magic, so that luckily it is hardly noticeable how boldly oriental enemy images are conjured up here again."
