Scary Movie is a horror parody from 2000 . In 2001 , 2003 , 2006 and 2013 the sequels Scary Movie 2 , Scary Movie 3 , Scary Movie 4 and Scary Movie 5 were created .
action
Young Drew Decker receives a threatening phone call at home. The Ghostface Killer chases her outside, where he stabs her in the chest and pulls out an implant . She is thrown into the air by her father's car, which is distracted by oral sex , and is eventually murdered by Ghostface.
The next day, Cindy Campbell, whose father is involved with Colombian drug traffickers , meets at BA Corpse High School with her boyfriend Bobby and their befriends Greg and Buffy as well as Brenda and Ray. Meanwhile, the gossip reporter Gail Hailstorm, who like other TV teams reports on the murder, tries to get information out of Buffy's mentally handicapped brother Doofy, who is acting as a police officer. During the boring class, Cindy receives a note: "I Know What You Did Last Halloween". Greg finds a photo of his tiny penis in the locker room that says "I Know".
When the six friends talk about it, Cindy realizes that the accident happened on Halloween exactly one year ago, and that they have been hiding it ever since. Back then, they were driving their cars and behaving so wildly that they accidentally ran over a man on the street. While they discussed in panic, they did not notice that the victim was still alive. Ultimately, they sank the man in the harbor basin and agreed not to mention the incident.
At an evening beauty pageant , Buffy wants to put on a dramatic scene. Then she actually screams because Greg is murdered by Ghostface in front of her eyes, but the audience understands it as part of the performance. Buffy becomes the winner and forgets about the murder. Cindy is called at home by Ghostface that evening and threatened personally. She locks herself in and alerts the police, so that the killer disappears. But then Bobby shows up with a knife and phone. Cindy thinks he's the killer and the police arrest him. Cindy then goes to Buffy, where she receives another call from Ghostface.
Bobby is released the next morning. Cindy tries in vain to confide in the physical education teacher Miss Mann, who turns out to be transgender . Buffy is still delighted with her beauty queen title and ignores Cindy's warning. Ghostface decapitates her and puts her still talking head in a barrel. Gail interviews Heather live, who is being murdered by Ghostface. Brenda and Ray go to the movies that evening to see Shakespeare in Love . Shortly before the film begins, Ray has to go to the toilet again. There his head is pierced by a penis. Then Ghostface sits down next to Brenda. However, he does not get around to killing her. This is done by the other viewers, who are annoyed by Brenda's loud talk.
Meanwhile, Cindy throws a party in her overcrowded house. A visitor is killed while fetching beer in the garage. Bobby arrives late and goes to the room with his girlfriend. The still virgin Cindy gets involved in her first sex. Bobby comes so hard that Cindy is thrown against the ceiling by his orgasm . Meanwhile, Ghostface has fun with Shorty and his stoner friends, whom he finally kills with a grappling hook . Then Ghostface comes into Cindy's room and stabs Bobby. Cindy grabs a gun, Bobby follows her to the front door and then Shorty joins them, who says that all the other party guests have left the house. Bobby shoots Shorty and then Ray shows up.
Bobby and Ray discuss the lack of logic in horror films and reveal to Cindy in the kitchen that they want to murder the young woman and her father. In doing so, they say, they are not the actual murderers, but only copycat perpetrators . They also want to stab each other. However, Ray gets angry and stabs Bobby badly before being stabbed by Ghostface himself. Then there is a fight between Cindy and Ghostface, with Cindy finally kicking the killer through the window. Before the police arrive, however, he has disappeared.
At the police station, Cindy speaks with the sheriff and realizes that Doofy is the only bystander who knows about the car accident a year ago. Doofy just faked his mental retardation and drives off with Gail without his disguise. Cindy is late and is eventually caught by another car on the street.

parody
Basics
The film is a parody with numerous allusions to other well-known productions from the horror film genre . The central basis is the film Scream , from which entire scenes are re-enacted or parodied. In one scene, Shorty talks about how much the current moment resembles a scene in the same film. You can also find references to I Know What You Done Last Summer , Blair Witch Project , The Sixth Sense , The Usual Suspects, and American Pie, among others .
The parallels become clear, for example, through the choice of names. The name "Cindy Campbell" is a reference to Neve Campbell , who played the leading role in Scream , and her role name Sidney. There was also a character named Randy Meeks (here modified to "Brenda Meeks") and a reporter named Gale Weathers.
The name "Buffy Gilmore," referring to Sarah Michelle Gellar's role as vampire hunter Buffy , and the motif with the traffic accident comes from I Know What You Did Last Summer . Freddie Prinze junior's involvement in this film is recognized by the use of the name "Bobby Prinze".
The name of the first victim, Drew Decker, is, like the whole scene, a reference to the opening scene of the film Scream! . Drew Decker alludes to Drew Barrymore , who plays Casey Becker in this scene.
In addition, certain battle scenes are shown with the bullet-time effect known from Matrix .
However, direct dialogue quotes from films are also used, for example, “I can see dead people!” From The Sixth Sense or “There are some rules for surviving a horror film” from Scream.
There are also modified passages, such as "Run, bitch, run!", Based on Forrest Gump's "Run, Forrest, run".

However, Shaquille later insisted on starring in Scary Movie 4 in a supporting role. In the German dubbing of the film, however, the film Spice World is mentioned .
- In one scene in the school yard, students joke about horror films. Greg says that if they were in a horror movie, their roles would certainly be played by people in their late twenties or early thirties. Lochlyn Munro, who plays Greg, was 34 years old when the film opened.
- At the police station there is a poster with the text "Serve, Protect, Shoot to kill", which means "Serve, protect, shoot to kill". This is a parody of the words "to protect and to serve" ( Eng. "(To) protect and serve"), which is written on police cars in the USA.

- The scene in which the killer, Shorty and his friends say "What's going on ?!" shouting into the phone is a foul of an American advertising campaign for the Budweiser beer brand with the collective title "Wassup ?!".
- There are "Satan" and "Killer" beer bottles in the refrigerator, with the "Killer" logo reminiscent of the "Miller" beer brand in terms of font.
- In the same year (2000) the film Shriek - Schrei, if you know what I did last Friday the 13th, was released that was very reminiscent of Scary Movie.
criticism
The film received mostly positive reviews: The Chicago Sun-Times and ReelViews each gave four out of five stars, while filmcritic.com gave Scary Movie two and a half stars out of five.
“The attempt to parody the horror genre, which has already degenerated into a parody through its teenage variants, and which at best can position itself through its excessive clarity. At the same time, it is a quotation from numerous dirty comedies that bluntly show black and white kids and their pop culture preferences, which is sometimes drastic, but never really funny. "
“(...) Anyone who can laugh about masturbation with a vacuum cleaner and intimate shaving with hedge trimmers,“ Scary Movie ”is warmly recommended. All friends of the more demanding humor, on the other hand, can comfort themselves with the self-reflective, ironic killer caricature, which collects a lot of sympathy points despite or perhaps because of its lack of cleverness.
