action

It has been around two years since the Woodsboro series of murders. Survivor Sidney is just finding her way back into normal life and attending college when the nightmare seems to repeat itself. The police are puzzled. Was it then that the wrong people were suspected and killed? Or is there just an imitator? The events call again the journalist Gale Weathers on the scene. She had written a book from the history of the Woodsboro murders, which was just celebrating its premiere as the movie "Stab" - and it was precisely at this premiere that the unknown perpetrator struck for the first time.

Sidney has to watch helplessly as her friends are killed, including Randy dies. Since her own friend Billy was one of the perpetrators in the first series of murders, she begins to have doubts about her new friend Derek. She receives support from her friend Dewey, another survivor of the Woodsboro murders.

Gale is hindered in her research by the curious provincial journalist Debbie Salt. Meanwhile, Derek turns his fraternity against him and as a punishment is bottled and tied up on a theater stage, where he is helplessly at the mercy of the masked killer. Sidney watches as Derek is shot. Dewey is also stabbed.

In the theater there is finally a showdown between Sidney and the two murderers: Mrs. Loomis and Mickey. Debbie Salt, who works for the Post Telegraph, is actually the mother of Billy, one of the killers from the first part. According to her own statements, she met Mickey in a "psychopath chat". She ends up shooting him because she was just using him as a means to an end.

Mrs. Loomis committed the murders to avenge her son Billy, with Mickey simply trying to get famous through press coverage.

In the end - the meanwhile exonerated and initially mistakenly imprisoned as the murderer of Sidney's mother - Cotton Weary succeeds in killing Mrs. Loomis with a shot in the heart. The supposedly dead Mickey is still alive, but is brought down by several shots from Sidney and Gale.

criticism

“Even less than in the first part, the events are carried by suspense moments; Tension is reduced to shock effects that are accompanied by great orchestral effort, which wear out from time to time, as do cinematic quotations and cross-references. A speculative piece of work vying for political correctness that is only annoying. "

background

  • Also in the second part, supposed film rules are at the center of the plot, according to which the perpetrators act. Only the rules for sequels are different than for the originals. During the Scream 2 dialogues, in the scene with the university film theory seminar, films are mentioned such as Aliens - The Return , Terminator 2 , House II - The Unexpected and The Godfather - Part II . In addition, the African-American cinematographer Joel, played by actor Duane Martin , mentions that the bloody murders reminded him of the controversial pseudo-documentary series Faces of Death .
  • The theme tune for Cassandra, during the theater scene, was written by Danny Elfman , Tim Burton's regular composer .
  • Parts of the soundtrack were taken from the film Operation: Broken Arrow , as these songs served as placeholders during the cut, but then no better ones were found. Among other things, the musical theme for Dewey is originally the theme song from Broken Arrow.
  • The film grossed $ 172 million at a cost of $ 24 million.
  • In the first part, Sidney is asked by Dewey who should play her role in a possible film adaptation of the story and that he could well imagine the young Meg Ryan , to which Sidney replies that if she is lucky, it will probably be Tori Spelling, in the second Part of the latter actually has the role of Sidney Prescott in the film adaptation of the Woodsboro murders.
  • In Germany, 1,267,895 people saw the film.
  • There is also a German version shortened by a few bloody scenes (around half a minute in total), which has been given an age rating of 16 and over by the FSK .
  • The dubbing voice for the role Hallie, played by Elise Neal, was voiced by Solveig Duda , who was already in Scream! Tatum gave her voice to the role.
  • The first 30-page draft script for Scream 2 was published by hackers on the Internet, so the script had to be rewritten. From this point on, confidentiality was meticulous. For example, the actors received a script version that did not include the end of the film.
  • In the scene in which the alleged murderer Cotton Weary, played by actor Liev Schreiber , talks to TV reporter Gale Weathers at the police station, Cotton Weary says: “ I'm waiting for my 15 minutes of fame. You understand that, don't you, Gale? ". The figure Cotton Weary uses a well-known quote from Pop Art artist Andy Warhol , who referred to media attention.
  • When Casey "Cici" Cooper, played by actress Sarah Michelle Gellar , sits alone in the living room in the evening, on the phone and zaps through the channels on TV, she ends up watching the black and white horror film Nosferatu - a symphony of horror by director Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau from 1922, which then runs in the background on the TV while she is chased through the house by the masked knife killer.

Cameos

Scream 2 again has a significant number of cameos .

  • Heather Graham as the "Stab" casey
  • Luke Wilson as "The Staff" Billy
  • Tori Spelling as "Stick" Sidney
  • Wes Craven as a doctor (without dialogue and not mentioned in the credits)
  • Kevin Williamson as Cottons interviewer
  • Matthew Lillard , whose character was killed in the first part, can be seen in the second part in a scene at the party in the background, even hugging the killer of this part, Mickey.
  • Peter Deming , the cameraman for the film, appears as a popcorn seller in the first sequence of the film.

Furthermore, at the beginning of the film, you can see the striped sweater that Freddy Krueger wore from Wes Cravens Nightmare in Sidney Prescott's closet .
