Marco Edward Beltrami (born October 7, 1966 in Long Island , New York ) is an American film composer .

Life

Shortly before his birth, Marco Beltrami's parents, he Italian, she Greek, emigrated to the USA, where Marco was born in Long Island , New York . At the age of six he began to learn the piano and played keyboard in various bands. Beltrami originally had a career in urban planning in mind when he enrolled at Brown University before indulging in his musical interests and studying composition . He studied composition in Venice and at the Yale School of Music and after graduating came in contact with the film composer Jerry Goldsmith , with whom he learned the basics of film music in Los Angeles . In 1994 he created his first work for the film The Bicyclist . His breakthrough came in 1996 when he worked for the film Scream! wrote the score. As a result, he mainly wrote music for films from the horror and action area, so u. a. for Scream 1–4, xXx 2 , Blade II and Terminator 3 - Rebellion of the Machines . In 1998 he won an Emmy for his work on the television production David and Lisa and a total of six ASCAP awards. At the end of 2001 he recorded the music for the film Dina - My Story with the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra . In 2008 he was nominated for the first time for an Oscar for his unconventional music for the western film Death Train to Yuma . He received another nomination two years later for his work on Kathryn Bigelow's war drama Deadly Command - The Hurt Locker . The film Ben Hur was released in 2016 and Beltrami composed the score for it . The film Free Solo , with the score composed by Beltrami, received the Oscar in the category of best documentary film in 2019.
