occupation

The Faculty (Alternative title: Faculty , also: Faculty - Do not trust any teacher ) is an American science fiction - horror film from the year 1998 . It was directed by Robert Rodriguez . The film was shown for the first time in Germany at the Berlinale on February 20, 1999.

action

The residents of a small American town, especially the teachers at Herrington High School , are subject to a striking metamorphosis. They seem subliminally aggressive. A small group of schoolchildren also noticed the enormously high consumption of drinking water. Eventually they discover an alien species on the football field lawn. Gradually, however, the classmates also transform themselves, so that the courageous small group is forced to realize that aliens use the bodies of their teachers and classmates as hosts . Of all things, the dealer Zeke Tyler finds out in time that caffeinated drugs can dry out the aliens and die, and thus - together with the previously regularly teased outsider Casey Connor - saves the world.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was “an entertaining science fiction horror thriller that finds its role models particularly in the 50s works of the genre, but fills them with contemporary content: on the one hand, through the desire to destroy the cure Teenage worlds from the television soap operas, on the other hand through the depiction of the everyday psychological horror within the pecking order in schools ”.

Awards

The film was nominated for three awards in 1999, but couldn't win any of them:

  • ALMA Award for Robert Rodriguez for Outstanding Latin American Director of a "Feature" Film.
  • Saturn Award for best horror film and best young actor (Josh Hartnett).
  • Blockbuster Entertainment Award for best horror actor (Elijah Wood) and best female newcomer (Clea DuVall).
