Kevin Meade Williamson (born March 14, 1965 in New Bern , North Carolina ) is an American screenwriter , film producer and film director .

Professional career

Williamson is considered the most renowned horror film writer , who started Scream! set the standard for other films in this genre. He was also involved in three sequels as a screenwriter. Furthermore, the TV series Scream was created in 2015 , based on his ideas.

After the sequel Scream 2 (1997), Williamson was the creator of the successful youth series Dawson’s Creek . The character of Jack McPhee, played by Kerr Smith , is partly based on himself, because like Jack in the series, Williamson came out as homosexual .

Also include I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and The Faculty (1998) to his works.

Williamson's directorial debut marked Kill Mrs. Tingle, produced in 1999 . .

Williamson is also the producer and screenwriter on the Vampire Diaries series .

On the other hand, there are critical voices accusing Williamson of misogyny and glorification of violence, for example in the US series Stalker and The Following . A reflective examination of the topic of stalking and its social impact is highly doubtful, as Williamson is said to have become conspicuous himself through stalking: he tried to intimidate a critic through his Twitter profile. Furthermore, the earlier successful revival of the teenage horror genre by exploiting his own concept led to increasing mindlessness in later films with Williamson's participation.

Private

Williamson has a longstanding relationship with George Kotsiopoulos.
