action

Cece's grandmother lives in a remote house in a small town in Louisiana . One night she drives to an old cemetery that is to be profaned due to an upcoming construction project . She digs up an old box there and drives back to her house. At the same time, the relationship between young Eden and her boyfriend Eric is in crisis. Eden has received the prospect of a scholarship to train as a doctor in New York City . Eric is angry because she didn't tell him she wanted to leave the small town. When Eden rides home on his bike after her shift in a diner , Eric follows her in his jeep and confronts her on a bridge. The gas station owner and eccentric Ray Sawyer also comes to the bridge with his tow truck and asks if he can help Eden. She says no and Ray overtakes Eric's vehicle just as Cece's grandmother walks towards him. There is a car accident in which Ray is able to save the grandmother. She asks him to retrieve the suitcase that is on the back seat of the vehicle. Ray tries to grab the case when it opens and several snakes attack him. The vehicle crashes with him into the river and sinks. Ceces grandmother dies shortly afterwards at the accident site.

The police recover Ray's body, but his body has already been taken over by supernatural forces. The zombie first kills the pathologist , then other people and some teenagers who had made fun of Ray at the diner earlier. Eden suspects something terrible is about to happen in the small town and goes to see Cece in her grandmother's house. Cece reveals to her that her grandmother mastered the art of voodoo and that she cared for the souls of murderers and other criminals. Through the spell she was able to free the souls and project evil onto the snakes. These now carried the evil within and manifested themselves in Ray's body. The latter visits Céce's grandmother's house, but cannot enter it: a ban from his grandmother keeps him away from the house. When some of Eden's friends also go to the house, however, he manages to kill some of them. He destroys parts of the house with his vehicle and can murder other teenagers, including Cece.

Eden flees to the Louisiana swamps with Eric. They are chased by Ray and the zombie attacks Eric too. Eden seeks refuge in an open crypt that she knows from visiting the cemetery where her late father is buried. She realizes that the zombie is keeping his corpses there. When Ray enters the crypt, Eden hides among the corpses in a coffin. Ray throws in Eric, too, but he's still alive. Eden is so upset that she utters a sound and Ray approaches the coffin. Eric sacrifices himself for his girlfriend and is also killed by the zombie. Now Eden seeks revenge and attacks Ray. A fight ensues in which the snakes emerge from Ray's body. Eden can distract her with a talisman given to her by Cece's grandmother. She manages to escape, but Ray pursues her. Finally, Eden races towards Ray's body with the tow truck and separates the torso from the rest of the body. Eden believes that it is all over now and leaves the place. In the last shot, some snakes crawl out of the torso.

Reviews

Peter Hartlaub scoffed in the September 16, 2005 San Francisco Chronicle that viewers would feel better if they donated the entrance fee to the Red Cross and waited for the film to appear on television. Venom is a bad horror film ( "'Venom' is a bad horror film" ). Agnes Bruckner seems appealing, but she hardly gets any support from the other actors.

Frank Scheck wrote in The Hollywood Reporter magazine that the “hideous horror film” deserves to be distributed directly on video or on cable television - or oblivion.

backgrounds

The film was shot in New Orleans and other locations in Louisiana . It grossed around $ 882,000 in US cinemas . In some countries such as Germany and the UK, the film was released directly on DVD.
