Donald Joseph "DJ" Cotrona (born May 23, 1980 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American actor who became internationally known for the role of Flint in GI Joe - The Reckoning .

Life

DJ Cotrona was born on May 23, 1980 in New Haven , Connecticut , to teacher Sheree and recycling entrepreneur Donald Cotrona . He is of Italian-Polish descent and his family has German, Hungarian, Austrian and English roots. Cotrona wanted to become a lawyer and studied at Northeastern University in Boston . When he did a summer internship in a law firm, he realized that the job was not for him. He switched to acting in his sophomore year. He never returned to college after visiting a friend in Los Angeles during spring break .

Career

He began his acting career in May 2003 with a guest role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit . He then auditioned for the role of Ryan Atwood in OC, California , which then went to Ben McKenzie . A short time later, Cotrona got the main male role of Adam Roam in the drama television series Skin, also produced by Fox . However, the Jerry Bruckheimer series was canceled after eight episodes.

In 2004 he got a role in the pilot episode of Hollywood Division , which was not produced afterwards. He then made the movie Venom - Bite of the Devil's Snakes , in which he played the role of Sean . In 2006 he starred as Lucas Mitchell in the film Love Is the Drug , which premiered at the 2006 Slamdance Film Festival . From June to August 2006 he played the main character of Sean Mathers in the short-lived NBC television series Windfall .

In 2007 he was given the chance to play the role of Superman in the planned feature film Justice League: Mortal . The project was put on hold due to the 2007/2008 writers' strike . He then took a break of almost three years. He celebrated his comeback in 2010 with the Nicholas Sparks film The Shine of Silence . Then he got the lead role of John Stone in the ABC - police series Detroit 1-8-7 . There he was seen from 2010 to 2011 in a total of 16 episodes before his character died in series.

His international breakthrough came in 2013 with the role of Flint in the action film G.I. Joe - The Reckoning , the sequel to GI Joe - Cobra (2009). From March 2014 he can be seen in the role of Seth Gecko in the series From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series developed by Robert Rodriguez , which is based on the 1996 film of the same name .
