G.I. Joe - Cobra's secret mission

GI Joe - The Reckoning (OT: GI Joe: Retaliation ) is an American action film with science fiction elements from 2013 . It is the sequel to GI Joe - Cobra (2009). Directed by Jon Chu . Like its predecessor, the film is based on the toy line GI Joe from Hasbro .

action

The plot is directly linked to the storylines from the secret mission Cobra and continues: The President of the United States was kidnapped and has been secretly replaced by Zartan, a member of the "Cobra" organization. As the alleged "President", he accuses the elite G.I. Joe , nuclear stealing, and leaves through a military strike killed a large part of the team. In this attack, Duke, the previous commanding officer, was also killed. While the surviving members Roadblock, Lady Jaye and Flint make their way towards the capital, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow's cousin Jinx train with the Blind Master and prepare for a blow against the super fighter Storm Shadow, the alleged killer of Hard Master.

Firefly and Storm Shadow manage to free the Cobra Commander. Its perfidious plan is supposed to give Cobra absolute power over the planet: Secret satellite technology is supposed to destroy the capitals of the earth. The remaining GI Joes meet with General Joseph Colton, who is reporting back from retirement after the three provide him with evidence that the President of the United States has been replaced. Meanwhile, Snake Eyes and Jinx capture Storm Shadow. It turns out that Zartan was the Hard Master's killer. Storm Shadow also joins the Joes once to avenge the master's death.

Finally there is a showdown in the course of which Roadblock succeeds in taking the control center of the satellite defense from Firefly in order to deactivate and ultimately destroy it. Zartan is killed in a duel by Storm Shadow. The Cobra Commander escapes, and Storm Shadow also disappears after the battle. The remaining Joes are reinstated by the real president and solemnly honored as heroes.

background

After the success of the first part, a second part was commissioned. The two screenwriters from Zombieland were responsible for the script . Only Channing Tatum , Arnold Vosloo , Ray Park , Jonathan Pryce and Byung-hun Lee remained from the original line-up . Tatum had to accept the role against his will because the studio insisted on contractual obligations. A new addition was, among others , Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson . The original plan was to keep Stephen Sommers directing , but Paramount Pictures ended up hiring John Chu.

Filming began in Louisiana in August 2011 . On November 22, 2011, there was a tragic accident in New Orleans in which a crew member from the Sound Department died.

Originally announced for mid-2012, the start of the film was postponed so that the film could also be offered in 3D . The film was finally released in the US in March 2013. At the same time, Hasbro released its own toy range, which was already available in 2012 and was reissued at the film's release. In Germany, the film was released on March 28, 2013.

In Pakistan , the film was banned by the censors because the state was portrayed as a hostile regime in the opening sequences.

criticism

“All of this is staged in overkill bursting with weapons with pithy sayings and no brains whatsoever. After all, the fascist outlook on the first part of the Hasbro franchise gave way to more effective 3D. Definitely questionable as a film for thinking people. "

“With breathtaking action scenes and a cast list that matches the genre, GI JOE 2: DIE ABRECHNUNG offers great entertainment for an action-packed 3D cinema evening. The respective target group will be least disturbed if the characters are only touched on superficially. "
