Channing Matthew Tatum (born April 26, 1980 in Cullman , Alabama ) is an American actor , film producer , dancer and model .

Life

Tatum, who has English , Irish , French , German and probably Indian ancestry, grew up with his older sister Paige on a farm in Cullman , Alabama . His father Glenn worked in the construction industry while his mother Kay (née Faust) worked for an airline .

In his childhood he played baseball , American football and practiced various martial arts . Since he was one of the best athletes in his high school, he received a football scholarship at Glenville State College in West Virginia , which he declined. As a result, Channing Tatum worked as a construction worker , salesman, and mortgage broker . He later moved to Tampa , Florida with his parents and sister . He then danced under the name "Chan Crawford" in a strip bar. In the late 1990s, Channing Tatum moved to Miami , where he was discovered by a model scout on the street. After a few years his modeling activity led to an acting career.

On September 5, 2008, Tatum became engaged to the dancer and actress Jenna Dewan , whom he met while filming the film Step Up . The two married on July 11, 2009 in Malibu , California . The couple lived together in the Hollywood Hills . In May 2013, their daughter was born in a clinic in London . At the beginning of April 2018, the couple separated. Tatum announced the separation via Twitter. There were "no secrets or suggestive events" behind the decision, he said. The actor has been in a relationship with the singer Jessie J since October 2018 and moved to live with her in England.

In 2012, he was named Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine .

In 2017 he was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year.

Career

Tatum began his career in 2000 as a dancer in Ricky Martin's music video for the song She Bangs . He then began working as a model and was featured in campaigns by Abercrombie and Fitch , Dolce & Gabbana , Armani , Nautica and Pepsi . A short time later, he signed with a modeling agency in Miami .

In 2004 he made his acting debut on an episode of CSI: Miami . A year later, Channing Tatum got a role in the basketball film Coach Carter . In the same year he starred in the independent films Havoc with Anne Hathaway and in Kids - In the Streets of New York alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Rosario Dawson . In 2006 Tatum played a leading role alongside Amanda Bynes in the romantic comedy She's the Man - Voll mein Typ! . In 2006, Channing Tatum received the Special Jury Prize of the Sundance Film Festival together with the cast of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints . For the film he was also nominated for the Breakthrough Award at the Gotham Awards .

Tatum played the role of the soldier Steve Shriver in the 2008 war drama Stop-Loss directed by Kimberly Peirce . That role also earned him a Teen Choice Award .

Another important leading role in a film Tatum achieved in 2009 in GI Joe - Cobra . In March 2013 the sequel celebrated its premiere under the name GI Joe - The Reckoning . In this film, however, he plays a supporting role. Entitled Magic Mike turned Steven Soderbergh 2011, a biographical film about Tatum's time as a stripper in which he himself plays the title role.

Tatum's German standard dubbing voice is Daniel Fehlow .
