21 Jump Street

22 Jump Street is an American comedy film from the year 2014 . It is the successor to the first cinema adaptation of the television series 21 Jump Street - Tatort Klassenzimmer . In Germany, the film was released in cinemas on July 31, 2014.

action

Since the two policemen Schmidt and Jenko were able to successfully finish their first case at the high school, they should be used again as undercover agents. This time, the mission to find out about the drug dealer WHYPHY (Work hard yes, play hard yes) takes place on the university campus. Due to the lure of student life, the two lose sight of their case and their work together on it more and more. Both cops move in different circles, while Jenko joins the football team and celebrates success with his new partner Zook, the quieter Schmidt feels drawn to art student Maya.

Due to his great success in football, Jenko increasingly doubts his career as a cop and lets it rest until the closed case is reopened by Schmidt. So the two cops end up for a spring break in Puerto Mexico, where they unmask the dealer, who turns out to be Mercedes. Also, after a wild chase, they can destroy the source of WHYPHY, preventing it from spreading to universities across the country.

background

By July 2012, Columbia Pictures President Doug Belgrade had already confirmed a sequel to 21 Jump Street . The start of shooting in autumn 2012 was denied by actor Jonah Hill , who stated in July 2012 that the script was still being written and that shooting had been scheduled for September 2013.

In May 2013, Sony announced that Oren Uziel was writing the script and that the film should open on June 6, 2014. Both the actors Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are part of the party as well as the directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The film will be titled 22 Jump Street. Filming began on September 28, 2013. However, the film release was postponed to June 13, 2014. That day, 22 Jump Street also opened in US cinemas.

In March 2016, Variety reported that filming for a third part should begin in June 2016. Sony hacked emails revealed that a crossover with the Men in Black film series was planned. However, Jonah Hill doubted the feasibility of the project in August 2016.

The budget was $ 50 million for this film. The gross profit was around 331 million US dollars worldwide.

criticism

“The directors duo […] really enjoy the fact that '22 Jump Street 'essentially tells the same story as the first film. […] In fact, it would be desirable if the coupling of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum were to appear on screen more often. You update a comedic character constellation that was made a legend by Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy: thick and stupid. "

- Markus Keuschnigg : The press

“Jonah Hill [...] and Channing Tatum [...] are Schmidt and Jenko, and there is an insane beauty in their routines , a dream-lost elegance. Driving yourself to the realm is also a moment of self-reflexivity for them. And there won't be a rapprochement anytime soon between an inexorable performance-driven society like the USA and our strict scholarly republic. How much anarchy does a society need to be fit for the future! "
