Life and accomplishments
Origin and studies
Jonah Hill Feldstein was born on December 20, 1983 in Los Angeles to Sharon Lyn, a costume designer , and Richard Feldstein, the accountant for Guns N 'Roses . His sister Beanie Feldstein is also an actress. His brother Jordan Feldstein, who died in 2017, was the manager of the band Maroon 5 . Hill graduated from Crossroads School in Santa Monica , California, and then began studying acting at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson , New York . He changed college twice, including studying at New York's New School and at the University of Colorado Boulder in Boulder , Colorado .
Entry into show business
Hill also began writing his own pieces in college, which he then performed in a local bar, Black and White in the East Village . With the pieces he reached a small following; he found that he would rather be an actor than a screenwriter. He befriended Rebecca and Jake Hoffman , who a short time later introduced him to their father Dustin Hoffman . This persuaded Hill to audition for a small supporting role in the film I Heart Huckabees , which finally made his acting debut in 2004.
In 2007 Hill was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for his role in SHIT - Die Highschool GmbH (2006) . He had his first leading role in the Judd Apatow- produced comedy Superbad (2007). Other appearances followed under Apatow, including in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007), and another leading role in Men's Trip (2010). In 2011 Hill co-created the animated series Allen Gregory with Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul , which received mostly negative reviews and was canceled in 2012 after only one season of 20th Century Fox production .
Hill also wrote the scripts for the films 21 Jump Street (2012) and 22 Jump Street (2014) together with Michael Bacall , in which he also played one of the leading roles alongside Channing Tatum .
For years he was seen almost exclusively in comedies. He gained particular attention for his role in the sports drama The Art of Winning - Moneyball (2011), for which he was nominated at the 2012 Oscars and Golden Globes . He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) , but was beaten by Jared Leto (for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club , 2013). In a 2014 interview with Howard Stern , Hill admitted that he only received the Screen Actors Guild minimum wage of $ 60,000 for his role in The Wolf of Wall Street . He said he'd given anything to be on a Scorsese production, so that comparatively modest wage wasn't a problem for him.
He made his debut as a feature film director in 2018 with the skater and coming-of-age film Mid90s , produced by A24 and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival .
