Judd Apatow (/ 'æpətaʊ /; born December 6, 1967 in Syosset , Long Island , New York ) is an American film director , screenwriter and film producer who has been very successful with comedy films since 2004 .

Life

Judd Apatow was born on December 6, 1967 in Syosset, New York. Even in his teenage years he was interested in stand-up comedians and film comedies, which is why he started a radio show on his campus in high school that gave him the opportunity to interview comedians like Jay Leno , Jerry Seinfeld and Garry Shandling .

In 1984, at the age of 17, Apatow moved to Los Angeles , where he began studying screenwriting at the University of Southern California . After two years, he left the university and initially worked as a stand-up comedian. Since he was unsuccessful with this, he worked as a gag writer.

In the following years he worked mainly as a producer and writer of comedy series such as The Ben Stiller Show or The Larry Sanders Show .
