action
At the heart of the plot are two high school misfits, Seth and Evan. Overweight Seth and shy Evan have been friends for years, but will soon have to study at different colleges as only Evan passed the entrance exam for the prestigious Dartmouth . By a lucky coincidence, Seth is invited by his crush Jules to a party for which he is supposed to get alcohol. The two underage friends therefore turn to their acquaintance of the same age, Fogell. The awkward glasses wearer has just got himself a not particularly skillful forged driver's license , which identifies him as an alleged 25-year-old named McLovin , a first name is not on the driver's license.
Fogell's ID is accepted by the saleswoman when buying alcohol, but seconds later the shop is attacked by a stranger. Fogell is therefore interrogated by the police officers Slater and Michaels, who apparently also take his false identity from him. The two take Fogell in the police car and become friends with him. Fogell is allowed to accompany the police officers to a bar and drink alcohol with them.
Meanwhile, Seth and Evan try to get alcohol without Fogell. After Seth has been hit, the two friends let the person who caused the accident take them to a party. When Seth dances with the friend of the host there, the host turns out to be violent. Despite some difficulties, Seth and Evan escape with beer filled in canisters that were previously filled with detergent. On the way, Seth is hit again. This time by the meanwhile drunk Michaels and Slater. The two policemen try to put the blame on Seth and Evan, but the friends, including Fogell and the alcohol, escape.
Finally arriving at Jules' party, the three of them make a big impression because of the alcohol they brought with them and each try to get closer to the girls. Evan goes into a bedroom with his crush, Becca. However, he does not feel comfortable with it and rejects her because Becca is drunk and no longer master of her senses. Meanwhile, Seth tries to kiss Jules, but she refuses him because he is drunk. Then he tips over from the mixture of alcohol and residual detergent from the canister and breaks her nose when he accidentally gives her a head nut.
Slater and Michaels storm the party, whereupon Evan and Seth have to flee again. The police catch Fogell in bed with a girl. They reveal to him that it was clear to them from the start that Fogell was a minor, but that they wanted to show him that police officers also knew how to joke. To make amends for his missed sexual experience, they lead Fogell in front of the rest of the party guests like a felon to increase his popularity. Then the three destroy the meanwhile battered patrol car.
Seth and Evan spend the night at Evan's parents' house, where the two admit their mutual affection. The next day, they meet Jules and Becca in a mall . The two friends part ways when Seth and Jules and Evan and Becca go to different errands in the shopping center and take one last look at each other.

Reviews
James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the film was an approximation of what Quentin Tarantino and John Hughes would do together if they were to make a teen comedy. For the film - like for Borat - there are no “sacred cows”. The film is often amusing and occasionally "raging".
Carina Chocano wrote in the Los Angeles Times on August 17, 2007 that the scriptwriters had processed real experiences from their youth. The film is not a teenage film, but a film about young people. Chocano wrote that he was “super cute” for an “insanely dirty” film - and emphasized that it should not be taken derogatory. Director Greg Mottola's comedies were based on characters rather than situations; Mottola has a "blissful gift" for depicting the dynamics of relationships under stress.
Frank Schirrmacher said that Superbad “shows the first Internet generation that speaks in its own language and uses it to express its image of women and men. This language is frighteningly raw, it comes from the images and is about the practices that these protagonists have seen in some niche of the internet. Pictures that anyone who has seen them can never forget, unless at the cost of complete dulling. "
Awards
The film was nominated for Best Summer Film - Comedy / Musical for the Teen Choice Award in 2007.
