Bootsy Collins, 1998

William "Bootsy" Collins (born October 26, 1951 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American bass player and has been a formative figure in funk since the late 1960s . He played his first important role with his brother Catfish Collins in the band of James Brown before joining George Clinton and his P-Funk empire. For example, Collins Bass can be heard in James Brown's hit song Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine .

In Clinton's projects, Collins developed into his equal partner in concepts, productions and arrangements as well as in songwriting . His style on the electric bass was completely new - he experimented with a variety of effects devices and gave the instrument completely new sounds that had a strong impact on the P-Funk sound.

He released other albums under the name Bootsy's Rubber Band , most of which were recorded by the same musicians as other P-Funk projects, but were even more silly and crazy.

In 1992 he took part in Praxis , a band project by Bill Laswell , before presenting his own new project in 1993 with Zillatron. In addition to Collins himself, the practice guitarist Buckethead and long-time companion Bernie Worrell were also involved . In 2002 he produced together with the German producer Mousse T. album Play with Bootsy . In 2004 he announced that he no longer wanted to play in public. However, he is still active and most recently worked on pieces by Snoop Dogg , Fatboy Slim , Stefan Raab , Victor Wooten and Toots and the Mayals . He can also be heard on the soundtrack for the film (T) Raumschiff Surprise - Period 1 . In December 2006 his Christmas album Christmas Is 4 Ever was released with remixes of older Bootsy hits and new songs.
