action

The backdrop of the dream ship

On July 22, 2004 (three days after the premiere of the film) an alien (H2O2) crashed with his UFO in the Nevada desert. This first contact with an extraterrestrial intelligence made it possible for mankind to colonize Mars fifty years later. Now, in 2304, Rogul, the evil regulator of the Martian colony, wants to subdue the earth.

After the first attack, humanity on earth under Queen Metapha and her senators only has a few hours to avoid annihilation. Metaphas Konsul has an idea: A team should travel into the past and prevent the colonization of Mars by destroying the UFO with a Swiss pocket laser. The only team still available during the turmoil of the war is that of the (T) spaceship “Surprise” with captain Jürgen Thorsten Kork, Mr. Spuck and chief engineer Schrotty. Although the Senate knows about the lack of qualifications, the team is still summoned to earth due to the hopelessness.

The three homosexual astronauts are reluctant to follow orders to return to Earth as they are training for the Miss Waikiki pageant in Honolulu. However, the helmsman tells Popowitsch that if you refuse to give orders, your vacation will be canceled, and so they allow themselves to be persuaded to take on the daring command. Since the Surprise's pug drive is damaged by a marten and the beam to earth does not work, the three of them have to call a space taxi. With this, controlled by Rock Ready-Off, they get to Queen Metapha in the “City of Government” despite being fired by spaceships from the regulators' so-called "Kampfkeksgeschwader".

In the Senate, the consul explains to the three astronauts the plan and the function of the time machine in the form of a sofa. While the first Martians storm into the palace and take Schrotty prisoner, Metapha, Captain Kork, Mr. Spuck and taxi driver Rock sit down on the time travel sofa and escape at the last moment. The senators, however, are locked in the laundry room and Schrotty, because he does not want to divulge any information, is knocked down with a frying pan. Jens Maul, the son of the regulator Rogul, uses the confiscated instructions for use for the time travel sofa to convert his moped into a time machine and, on Rogul's order, follows the heroes into the past.

The time travel sofa does not work reliably, however: the heroes travel too far into the past, end up in 1304 and are chained by Duke "William the Last of Shareholding". At a tournament, Rock has to win to prevent the Duke from taking Metapha to wife and burning the other prisoners. Rock's opponent is a black knight who turns out to be Jens Maul. The black knight wins the tournament against Rock, but Metapha, Captain Kork, Mr. Spuck and Rock escape with the time machine through a ruse by the queen: She lets the duke take a photo of himself and the others at the stake, and exactly in the moment William presses the shutter release on the camera, the time travel sofa with the prisoners disappears. William the Last is then called a sorcerer by his advisor and ordered to the stake to the cheers of the people.

This time the four time travelers land in the small town of Groom Lake City in the Wild West. Shortly after their arrival, however, the time travel sofa was destroyed by an approaching train, as it had landed exactly on a railroad track. The action takes place there at the same time as in The Shoe of Manitu , which means that the same characters from this film appear. At 12 noon, the streets suddenly empty, because the dreaded bandit Santa Maria arrives with two of his wild cronies. While Santa Maria and his henchman Jim are selling rheumatism blankets to old women at a sales event , Captain Kork and Mr. Spuck, unsuspectingly, clash with one of his buddies, John, on the street. The two of them don't notice him at first because they argue with each other. During this dispute, John Mr. Spuck shoots the Swiss pocket laser out of his hand and finally gets attention. Without realizing it, Kork and Mr. Spuck engage in a Western duel against John. He takes up his gun and fires, but during the shot Metapha sneaks up from behind and knocks John to the ground with a flower pot. However, the shot is not without consequences, namely it finally frees Cork and Mr. Spuck from the chain with which the two were held captive by William the Last in the Middle Ages.

Jens Maul finds the Swiss pocket laser and wants to flee on his moped. However, Rock Ready-Out notices this, jumps on a horse and chases after him. After a while, Jens Maul's cloak gets caught in the engine of his time travel moped. Rock uses this chance to overpower Jens Maul with a lasso, to take the time machine and pocket laser from him and to travel to the right time with his companions. But Jens Maul doesn't give up; he repairs the broken sofa and follows them. Arrived in the Nevada desert, Rock and Jens Maul fight a duel with their laser weapons. When Rock goes to the ground and Maul wants to strike the decisive blow, the UFO lands and hits Jens Maul on the head, who is incapacitated by Rock with a punch that follows.

The alien from the football-sized spaceship complains in an unknown language, but gesticulating understandably about the crash caused by damage to the spaceship. Then he wants to have a drink, but chokes. Therefore Mr. Spuck presses Jens Maul's asthma spray into the male's mouth, whereupon the alien bursts. Rock still destroys the UFO with the Swiss pocket laser to complete the mission and save the (later) world. So that the time travelers can return to the year 2304, Mr. Spuck has to sadly stay behind in the Nevada desert, otherwise the battered time machine would be overloaded by exactly Mr. Spuck's weight.

But when Queen Metapha, Captain Kork and Rock return to the year 2304, they are greeted by Spuck and the other members of the "Surprise". As an explanation, Mr. Spuck points out that he is a Vulcanette Vulgaris, which can live up to 400 years because it belongs to the genus of the Galápagos giant tortoises , which Cork and Schrotty never wanted to believe him before. In addition, the now 335-year-old Spuck has spent the last 300 years redesigning the earth according to his ideas: Everything is now colored in pink camouflage. Captain Kork, Mr. Spuck and Schrotty can finally take part in the Miss Waikiki election. After the election (with Kork first, Spucky second and Schrotty third), the winners will sing the Miss Waikiki song. After its end, Jens Maul appears in the picture with the words “You can rely on me, Papi”, which indicates a possible continuation.

Then there are about ten minutes of credits with the shooting of unsuccessful scenes. Finally, during a coffee round with a creamy cheese cake on board the Surprise, where Spucky reports on the last 300 years, a visitor to the "Surprise" unexpectedly arrives: The Apache Winnetouch asks whether a pearl diver is needed.

The name is based on Darth Maul, who also uses a vehicle in Episode I that is similar to Jens Maul's moped.
    • The flight of Space Taxi is strongly reminiscent of the Pod Racer race (flight through rocky landscape) in Episode I . The front engines of the Space Taxi, which are pulled out shortly before take-off, also look like those of a pod racer.

    • The language of the alien H2O2 is reminiscent of that of the separatist Poggle the Lesser from Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones .
    • Many of the dialogues between Metapha and Rock in the city in the Wild West are reminiscent of dialogues between Leia Organa and Han Solo in Episode V : Rock claims the princess needs him because she loves him, she replies that he is important to the mission; in Star Wars, Han claims the same, and Leia replies that his leadership skills make him important to the rebellion. Shortly afterwards, Rock Metapha explains that he is not doing any of this to save the world, but only wants his taxi repaired. Han says he's not doing this for the rebellion, but because he wants his money. When Rock appears on Jens Maul's motorcycle, Metapha declares he is a hero. He answers “I know”, which is based on the famous dialogue “I love you” - “I know”.

Well-known brand names are also satirized, such as Chio-Chips (modified to Chic ) or the Sarotti-Mohr . The advertisement “ Mars makes you mobile - at work, sport and play!” Is parodied by the phrase “Mars makes you mobile”.

background

  • After the great success of the previous film Der Schuh des Manitu , Michael Herbig had the viewers of the Bully Parade vote on the topic of the next film. The choices were a continuation of the Manitu film, a Sissi film, a (T) spaceship film, a “film where nobody expects” (which would have been called that) and “Bully, stop that shit “A piece of advice to keep your hands off cinema films completely in the future. The majority eventually decided on the space theme. Years later, those responsible decided to also produce the Sissi film. On September 25, 2007, the animated film Lissi and the Wilder Kaiser was released with the voices of Herbig, Tramitz and Kavanian.
  • The Manitu's shoe and (T) Raumschiff Surprise are linked in terms of content insofar as the main plot of the Manitu film is to begin shortly after the Surprise team arrives in the Wild West. These parallels are shown in the film by a newspaper article and a comment by the villain Santa Maria ("John, you have ten minutes; we still want to sell the Apaches a hangout today!"). Further connections are: a) the train that runs over the Schoschonen's draisine in the Manitu film also destroys the Zeit-Sofa, and b) Winnetouch, the one on the (T) spaceship at the very end of the film (only after the credits) Surprise wants to hire (“Do you still need a pearl diver?”).
  • The budget of the film was 9 million euros.
  • The film is cast with three actors, each of whom appeared in the opposite role of an Otto film: Sky du Mont ( Otto - Der Film ), Hans-Peter Hallwachs ( Otto - Der Ausserfriesische ), Reiner Schöne ( Otto - Der Katastrofenfilm ) .
  • Reiner Schöne also starred in an episode of the series Spaceship Enterprise: The Next Century .
  • A background book was also published for the film, in which the history and additional information are explained. Details such as the year of construction of the Surprise (2150) and the "pug speed" (0.98888 times the speed of light, named after Dr. ing.Ferdinand Mops) are known, as well as that the settlement of Mars through the fictional television program "Auf gehts!" which was the first to send selected candidates to Mars through a casting show in order to have them colonized there (including Monika and Kalle Rogul: the regulators' parents).
  • In 2017, for the 20th anniversary of the Bullyparade, Bullyparade - The Film , an episode film directed by Michael Herbig, was released . One of the five episodes of the film is another dream ship parody in which the characters from (T) Raumschiff Surprise make an appearance.

Soundtrack

The film's soundtrack includes sixteen tracks:

A CD with the background music for the film (composed by Ralf Wengenmayr ) has also been released.

criticism

The film was partially criticized by the gay scene, as the predominantly homosexual protagonists are consistently portrayed as overloaded with clichés. Peter Polzer, editor-in-chief of the gay and lesbian magazine Victory Column, noted that he did not feel comfortable “when an audience of millions is played one more time that gay men are not men”. Ralf König describes the film as an “endless Detlev joke in high-tech.” He has nothing against clichés, he worked with them himself, but the nuances are important and the film is too one-dimensional for him limited to queens.

“Exuberant juxtaposition of gags and singing, trivial parodies and allusions to the science fiction genre, in which elaborate scenes and flat, sometimes crude verbal eroticism maintain a balance. The breathless number revue shows neither measure nor satirical sharpness and draws a certain charm from this "lack of intention". "

“The sci-fi parody“ (T) Raumschiff Surprise - Period 1 ”is funny, silly and technical at an amazing level. The big surprise effect of “Der Schuh des Manitu” can of course no longer be achieved, but “Bully” gives its fans exactly what they want. It remains to be noted that Michael "Bully" Herbig and his team are on the safe side and thus meet expectations, but by no means exceed them. "

“This time, too, Michael Herbig doesn't just warm up the gags from his TV show Bullyparade , but delivers a perfectly and lovingly staged science fiction parody in the classic Mel Brooks tradition, which ranges from Star Wars to Back to the Future . Both genre and manitu fans get their money's worth here. Above all, Herbig once again proves himself to be the great German directing talent, who not only cracks jokes, but can also tell stories suitable for the cinema and incite actors to top performances. [...] Bully is the best: Whoever liked the Manitou's shoe will love (T) Raumschiff Surprise . "
