Bonita Jeanetta Louw (born July 30, 1977 in Cape Town , South Africa ), also known by her first name Bonita or after her wedding as Bonita Niessen , is a German pop and soul singer from South Africa . She became known to a larger audience in 2003/2004 in Stefan Raab's casting show SSDSGPS for the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul.

Live and act

Bonita grew up near Cape Town. When she was twelve, she began to play the guitar and compose her own song material. At 18, she came to Germany as an au pair . She sang in a jazz and party band as well as in a gospel choir. She also had an appearance with Till Brönner . In 1999 their first single Superman was released and in 2000 their first album Just .

However, her breakthrough only came when she applied for the casting show SSDSGPS (Stefan is looking for the Super Grand Prix star) broadcast on ProSieben in 2003 . Here she was defeated in the final by the later song contest participant Max Mutzke with a slightly faster version of Can't Wait Until Tonight and took second place ahead of the Olpe-born singer Alexandra Schröder . In October 2004 her second single Big Bad World reached number 71 in the German single charts and number 62 in the Austrian single charts after it was used as the title song for the TV-Total horse show at the end of September 2004.

In 2005 the second album Bonita and the single Lose you now were released. After a live album recorded in 2006, Bonita's fourth album Oz was released in early 2009 . In early 2010 she took part in the pop oratorio The Ten Commandments by Dieter Falk and Michael Kunze in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle .

In the show TV total she appeared on stage with Michael Bublé (at Jazz Night in April 2005), with Kool & the Gang and with Bootsy Collins . Bonita is married to Philip Niessen, a former heavytones guitarist .

After a duet with Michael Arlt from BB & The Blues Shacks in 2013, she recorded her first album with the Hildesheim formation in 2015 . On October 31, 2015, she participated in the world premiere of the pop oratorio Luther by Dieter Falk and Michael Kunze in Dortmund. In 2019, Sweet Thing was their second album with the Blues Shacks.
