The 10 Commandments is a pop - oratorio by composer Dieter Falk and librettist Michael Kunze , which of the events in the second book of Moses is ajar.
In concert (texts, song and dance) with many pop and gospel elements it tells the story of the Israelites from the first meeting of Moses with his later wife Zipporah to the ten plagues and the exodus from Egypt to the foundation of the 10 commandments by God . The finale increases the statement of the 10 commandments towards the great universal commandment , love in the face of humanity .
Performances
The oratorio, sometimes also referred to as a musical , premiered on January 17, 2010 as part of RUHR.2010 - European Capital of Culture in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle, which is packed with 9,000 spectators . The main roles were played by Michael Eisenburger (as Mose), Bahar Kızıl (as Zipporah, Moses' wife) and Stefan Poslovski (as Pharaoh ). 2555 singers from ninety German choirs took part.
On March 6, 2011, two performances with 500 singers each, the young orchestra NRW and the Dortmund original cast took place in the Kampa-Halle Minden . The performances were part of the supporting program for the Week of Brotherhood, which was opened in Minden in 2011 by NRW Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft .
As part of the 33rd German Evangelical Church Congress , a performance took place in the Glücksgas Stadium in Dresden on June 4, 2011, with around 15,000 spectators estimated by the organizer. At this open air event, 1300 singers from Saxon choirs and the original line-up from Dortmund could be seen. The performance was accompanied by the Orchestra of the State Theaters of Saxony .
Choir projects and performances took place in the “Year of Church Music 2012” in Hanover ( TUI Arena ), Düsseldorf ( ISS Dome ), Mannheim ( SAP Arena ) and in Braunschweig ( Volkswagen-Halle Braunschweig ). During the performance on February 26, 2012 in Mannheim, 2,811 singers sang in the choir at a single event. According to the organizer Creative Church, this was the largest musical choir that has ever performed in Germany.
Starting in February 2013, the piece, supplemented by a few scenes and roles, was played as a professional musical production for two years in a series of around 40 performances in the St. Gallen Theater . The performance time was two hours and 40 minutes instead of the previous 90 minutes.
On September 13, 2014, two performances in the “Michel” were accompanied by around 850 singers from the Hamburg Choir Association, as well as individual singers and choirs from all over Germany and attended by around 3300 spectators.

Others
With the premiere cast, to which u. a. also heard Otto Sander as the voice of God , a CD was released in advance in October 2009. In June 2009 the choir directors of the participating choirs rehearsed the pop oratorio with Dieter Falk in the Christ Church in Witten in order to be able to prepare it individually for the premiere in the respective choirs. The first joint rehearsals were carried out in October and November 2009 in Hagen , Unna , Gladbeck and Duisburg . A main rehearsal, at which all 2555 singers came together, took place on January 9, 2010 at the RuhrCongress in Bochum .
A poster exhibition was presented as an accompanying program to the musical. The illustrations were used during the choir rehearsals and a. shown at the world premiere.
