On average, around 200 events of various kinds take place here every year, from concerts and comedy to trade fairs and larger (specialist) congresses.

The total area of the event center of around 8,700 m² is divided into five halls and event rooms with capacities from 70 to 3000 m². Another ten conference rooms are located in the adjacent Renaissance Bochum Hotel. The RuhrCongress Bochum has an average of around 200,000 visitors annually.

history

In 2001, the city of Bochum built a new congress and event center on the site where the Ruhrlandhalle once stood, which technically and conceptually met all the requirements of a modern event location. The old Ruhrlandhalle, which opened on July 18, 1964 and was originally planned as a sports hall, had recently been unable to keep up with the competition in the region.

The construction project began at the end of 2001. In six months, from the laying of the foundation stone in February 2002 to the topping-out ceremony in July of the same year, the new congress and event center was set up on the area next to the Ruhrstadion . At this time, the Bochumer Veranstaltungs-GmbH was founded, which should take over the management after completion. The RuhrCongress was completed in December 2002. The first guests were welcomed in January 2003 during the opening ceremony.

Trade fairs, meetings and congresses as well as concerts, events and galas can be held in the building complex. In addition, the Renaissance Bochum Hotel was structurally integrated into the hall concept. The accessibility of the venue was also important.

Bochum event GmbH

The Bochumer Veranstaltungs-GmbH (BoVG) is the operating company of the RuhrCongress Bochum and, in addition to managing the event location, is also entrusted with its marketing. The development company Ruhr GmbH (EGR), a 100% subsidiary of the city of Bochum, is a 100% shareholder of the BoVG. Andreas Kuchajda has been the sole managing director since 2009. The mayor of Bochum, Thomas Eiskirch , has been the chairman of the supervisory board since October 2015 .

In addition to the RuhrCongress Bochum, the BoVG operates three other venues in Bochum: the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum , the Stadthalle Wattenscheid and the open-air theater Wattenscheid.
