Thomas Eiskirch (born November 4, 1970 in Hagen ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former member of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament . On October 21, 2015, he took up his post as Lord Mayor of Bochum .

Life

Eiskirch grew up in Bochum. He attended the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium and received his Abitur there in 1990 . From 1990 to 1991 he was doing community service in the Overdyker Strasse children's home . From 1992 to 1995 he studied in the basic study economics at the University of Bochum and, based on 1995-2000 business administration at the University of Dortmund , however, having achieved without a degree. From 2000 to 2005 he worked as a commercial employee, authorized signatory of IMMOMED Immobilien und Wohnservicegesellschaft mbH and trainer for merchants in the real estate and housing industry.

Eiskirch is married and has two children. He is a member of the IG Metall trade union .

politics

Eiskirch has been a member of the SPD since 1988. From 1991 to 1999 he was deputy chairman of the SPD local association Bochum-Stiepel and from 1999 to 2009 chairman of the district of Bochum-Süd of the SPD. From 2001 to 2009 he was treasurer of the Bochum SPD and from 2009 to 2015 its chairman. Since the end of 2006 he has also been a member of the RuhrSPD's spokesperson, and has been its deputy spokesperson since 2013. From 2002 to 2012, Thomas Eiskirch was a member of the state party council of the NRW-SPD, since 2012 he has been a member of the party convention of the SPD.

Since June 8, 2005 he was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament as a directly elected member of the Bochum II state electoral district . In the North Rhine-Westphalian state elections in 2012 , he was directly elected to the state parliament for the third time (this time with 52.7% of the vote). For the SPD parliamentary group in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia he acted as economic and energy policy spokesman. He was a full member of the Committee on Economy, Energy, Industry, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Crafts, the Main Committee and the Committee on Local Policy, and an alternate member of the Budget and Finance Committee and the Committee on Innovation, Science and Research.

Eiskirch has been a member of the association assembly of the Ruhr Regional Association since the beginning of 2010 and has been a member of the supervisory board of NRW.Invest since October 2010. In addition, he has been a member of the advisory board of the Krümmede correctional facility since 2005 and a member of the advisory boards of RheinEnergie AG, Steag GmbH and the regional association for renewable energies NRW since 2013 . In 2013 Eiskirch sat on the administrative board of Freizeitzentrum Kemnade GmbH for the Ruhr Regional Association.

In January 2015, the SPD-Stadtverband Thomas Eiskirch intended for candidates for elections to the mayor in the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia 2015 . In the runoff elections for the mayor election in Bochum, he was able to prevail against Klaus Franz (CDU) with 53.1% of the votes cast and a turnout of 32.9%. After being elected mayor, he left the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament on October 20, 2015.
