Franz Geyer

Franz Geyer (born June 19, 1885 in Dortmund , † June 17, 1970 in Bochum ) was a German administrative lawyer and local politician .

Career

Geyer studied law and political science as well as economics and graduated in 1909 with a doctorate in law. In 1914 he passed the assessor examination and then served four years as a soldier. In March 1919 he began his career in local government with the municipal councilor in Dortmund. From 1921 he was an alderman for the city of Herne. In 1923 he was elected first alderman and treasurer of the city of Bochum.

When the American troops marched in on April 9 and 10, 1945, he temporarily took over the official duties of the mayor Friedrich Hesseldieck who had fled . Five days later he was temporarily arrested, but quickly released and on July 1, 1945, appointed Lord Mayor for one year by the Allied Military Government.

He was the organizer of the 73rd German Catholic Day, which took place in Bochum in 1949.
