Willi Geldmacher

Willi Geldmacher (born February 26, 1907 in Sprockhövel ; † November 7, 1987 ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ). From 1946 to 1952 he was Lord Mayor of Bochum and from 1947 to 1954 a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

After attending elementary school, Geldmacher trained as a lathe operator from 1921 to 1925. In the 1920s he worked as a functionary for the socialist youth workers , joined the German Metalworkers' Union in 1921 and joined the SPD in 1926. In addition, he received training at party and union schools.

After the Second World War , Geldmacher continued his union and political work. In 1945 he became chairman of the works council of the Bochum association and the Bochum branch of Fried. Krupp Hüttenwerke AG , from 1949 as a member of IG Metall . From 1949 to 1952 he worked as a "steel trustee" and from 1952 until his retirement in 1972 as labor director at the Bochumer Verein. Geldmacher was a member of the Westphalian Provincial Council in 1946 . He was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from April 20, 1947 to July 4, 1954 and won the direct mandate in constituency 103 (Bochum-Nordost) in the state elections in 1947 and 1950 .

From 1946 to 1952 Geldmacher was a council member of the city of Bochum. On March 18, 1946, the British Military Government appointed him Lord Mayor and on October 30, 1946, he was elected by the City Council. On October 17, 1948, he was re-elected Lord Mayor. He held the honorary position as head of the city until November 20, 1952.
