OB elections in Cologne

Originally, the mayor election in the independent city of Cologne was supposed to take place on September 13th. The election was postponed due to a complaint about the ballot papers, on which the names of the parties were displayed in excessively large font size, but the names of the candidates were rather small, which was criticized as reducing the chances of non-party candidates. The first ballot took place on October 18th, a possible runoff election was planned for November 8th, but then did not have to be held. As a result of the postponement, around 55,000 ballot papers submitted by postal vote had to be declared invalid.

On October 17, 2015, a former neo-Nazi carried out a knife attack on the candidate Henriette Reker and several bystanders due to xenophobic motives.
