The Starlight Express Theater in Bochum is a theater opened in 1988 in which the musical Starlight Express by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Richard Stilgoe is performed.

The theater is located next to the RuhrCongress event center near the federal motorway 40 and can be reached by Stadtbahn Bochum .
With the theater, a building was created for the first time in which only one play was to be performed. This and the short construction time of just under a year led to an entry in the Guinness Book of Records . The construction cost around 24 million German marks. In front of the theater there is a Prussian T9 1 as a “nostalgic locomotive” , which replaced the Hibernia 41-E on November 9, 2015 . The locomotives are provided by the Bochum-Dahlhausen Railway Museum .

Starlight Express in Bochum is a theater belonging to the Mehr! Entertainment and is under the direction of the managing directors Maik Klokow and Günter Irmler. The German-language premiere of the musical took place on June 12, 1988. The staging was revised in 2008 and 2018.
The heart of the 1,100 square meter stage is a 9-ton bridge element that can be swiveled in all directions and connects the various playing levels. The auditorium can seat around 1,650 guests. On the 280 meter long runway, which leads over three levels with a height difference of 7.5 meters, the performers skate directly through the rows of stalls at up to 60 kilometers per hour.
With over 16 million visitors, Starlight Express in Bochum is currently the most successful musical in the world at one location (as of September 2016).
