Richard Stilgoe

Sir Richard Henry Simpson Stilgoe KBE (born March 28, 1943 in Camberley ) is a British songwriter and musician . He wrote the text for the musicals Starlight Express and The Phantom of the Opera .

Richard Stilgoe composed and wrote more than 100 songs that became famous around the world on radio, television and stage. For Andrew Lloyd Webber he wrote the first lines of the musical " Cats ", the lyrics for " Starlight Express " and " The Phantom Of The Opera ". Children are the focus of his work. Richard Stilgoe founded the Orpheus Trust, an institution that brings disabled children closer to music and helps them make music themselves, and directed the National Youth Music Theater, for which he wrote the music and lyrics for "Bodywork". The piece premiered at the Edinburgh Festival in 1987 and was released on record that year. His musical "The Day The Earth Moved" premiered in 1999. He has received the following honors: two Tony nominations, three Monte Carlo prizes , a Prix ​​Italia , an honorary doctorate and the Order of the British Empire .
