After graduating from high school, he did his military service in Idar-Oberstein and then initially considered becoming a dance teacher or studying music. Between this decision he made a trip to Brazil in 1996 to help out with another folk dance group from Ulm . In the bungalow complex he met Janet Albright , who was playing the keyboard in the musical Cats at the time. She was interested in his wishes for the future and gave him the address of a singing teacher at a Hamburg musical school. While participating in a musical workshop , he decided to train as a musical performer at the Stage School Hamburg. Before he passed the musical school entrance exam two months later, John Lehmann , the workshop leader , hired him as a tenor in the musical Hair .
