Mechthild Black-Veldtrup

Mechthild Black-Veldtrup (born September 13, 1960 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German historian and archivist . She has been the head of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Archives since 2004 .

Mechthild Black-Veldtrup studied history, English, political science and education in Freiburg , Münster and Canterbury . She received her doctorate in 1993 with Joachim Wollasch at the University of Münster with a thesis on Agnes von Poitou . After completing her doctorate, she attended the Marburg archive school as an archive trainee for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia from 1995 to 1997 and then worked as a research assistant in the DFG project "Prototype of an online-capable finding aid" at the archive school. After four years of employment at the main state archive in Düsseldorf , she switched to the state archive in Münster in 2002 , where she took over management in 2004.

Since 2003 she has been a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . Since 2008 she has been the director of the Association for the History and Archeology of Westphalia, Department of Münster . Mechthild Black-Veldtrup was elected in April 2018 by the general assembly to succeed Wilfried Reininghaus as the new chairman of the Historical Commission for Westphalia.
