The Archive School Marburg - University of Archival Science is a technical college for archives and at the same time an institute for archival science of the Federal Republic of Germany . Since January 1, 2002, it has been a state enterprise directly subordinate to the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art .
History and tasks
The archive school was founded in 1949 under the aegis of the Hessian Minister of Education, Erwin Stein . After the final completion of the university archivist training at the Humboldt University in Berlin in the mid-1990s, it developed into the central training and further education institution of the German state archives. Here archivists of the higher and higher archival service are trained and the state degrees archive assessor (ArchAss) or archive inspector (ArchI) are awarded as part of a civil service career.
In addition, fee-based advanced and advanced training courses with external lecturers are offered for those working in and interested in archives.
There are two similar institutions in Germany. In its information sciences department, the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences offers a bachelor's degree (BA Archive), distance learning to the same degree and a distance learning master's degree in archival science. The Bavarian Archive School , which is located at the General Directorate of the Bavarian State Archives , provides training for the Bavarian middle, upper and higher archive service alone .
