Klaus Neitmann (born August 22, 1954 in Minden , Westphalia ) is a German archivist and historian . From 1993 to 2020 he was director of the Brandenburg State Main Archives .

Live and act

Klaus Neitmann was born as the son of August and Hildegard Neitmann, b. Lübbert born. After graduating from high school in 1973 in Minden, he did his basic military service from 1973 to 1974 . From 1974 to 1979 he studied history and Romance studies (French) at the University of Göttingen and graduated in 1979 with a master's degree and in 1983 with the state examination in both subjects. In 1984 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . From 1984 to 1986 he trained as a scientific archivist at the Secret State Archive of Prussian Cultural Heritage in Berlin and at the Marburg Archive School . From 1986 to 1993 he was archivist at the Secret State Archive of Prussian Cultural Heritage. From 1993 until his retirement on May 1, 2020 (successor is Mario Glauert), he was director of the Brandenburg State Main Archives in Potsdam . In 2008 he completed his habilitation and since then has also been a private lecturer at the University of Potsdam .

Neitmann researches medieval German history , the history of the Teutonic Order as well as Brandenburg and Prussian history. He is co-editor of the journals Preussenland , yearbook for the history of Central and Eastern Germany , sheets for German regional history and editor of the publications of the Brandenburg State Main Archives , sources, finding aids and inventories of the Brandenburg State Main Archives and Brandenburg Historical Studies . He is chairman of the Brandenburg Historical Commission and a member of the Historical Commission for East and West Prussian State Research , the Prussian Historical Commission , the Baltic Historical Commission and the Historical Commission in Berlin .

Neitmann is married and has four children.
