Recognizing that European history cannot be national, Arnold dedicated himself since 1965 to the 800-year history of the Teutonic Order; because its spiritual and political influence reached from the Holy Land to the Baltic States and Western Europe . With foreign authors and collaborators, Arnold made these connections clear at conferences in Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland and Russia.
