Ilgvars Misāns

Ilgvars Misāns (* 1955 in Magadan ) is a Latvian historian and university professor.

Life

Misāns is the son of a Latvian geologist who worked in the Far East of Russia . From 1973 to 1978 he studied history at the University of Latvia in Riga .

After graduating in 1978, he first worked as a teacher. He returned to the university in 1981 for postgraduate studies, was a candidate for science in 1988 and a doctorate in history and a lecturer in history in 1992.

In 1999 he became an associate professor; since 2002 he has been a full professor of medieval history, department head for history and philosophy and chairman of the doctoral committee.

Misāns mainly researches the medieval history of Latvia, especially the history of the city of Riga and the Livonian Parliament. He has published many articles, especially in German-language publications, and was the editor of several works.
