Wilfried Reininghaus (born April 26, 1950 in Schwerte ) is a German historian and archivist . From 2004 to 2013 he was President of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Archives . Reininghaus is an adjunct professor for Westphalian regional history at the University of Münster and former first chairman of the historical commission for Westphalia .

Live and act

After graduating from the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Hagen, Wilfried Reininghaus studied economics and history at the University of Münster from 1969 . In 1974 he passed the exam as a graduate economist, in 1978 the first state examination followed and in 1980 with Otto Gerhard Oexle the doctorate to Dr. phil. with a thesis on the formation of journeyman's guilds in the late Middle Ages. From 1980 to 1982 he completed the archive clerkship at the archive school in Marburg , then from 1982 to 1996 he worked at the Westphalian Economic Archives in Dortmund - since 1992 as director. In 1996 he became head of the NRW State Archives in Münster (Ltd. State Archives Director), which was merged with the other state archives in 2004 and has been called the State Archives North Rhine-Westphalia Westphalia Department since 2008 . After the merger of the three North Rhine-Westphalian state archives to form the North Rhine-Westphalia State Archive , Wilfried Reininghaus was appointed its first President on January 1, 2004. He retired on April 30, 2013.

In 1990 Reininghaus began teaching at the University of Münster, where he received his habilitation in 1992 in the subject of Westphalian regional history with a thesis on the merchants of the city of Iserlohn (1700–1815). In 1998 he was appointed adjunct professor for Westphalian regional history at the University of Münster. Reininghaus was elected a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia in 1990, joined the board in 1997, became second chairman in 2000, and was first chairman of the commission from 2003 to 2018. The general assembly of the commission elected him an honorary member on April 13, 2018 in Beckum.

Reininghaus was also a reviewer for the DFG from 1993 to 2005 , from 1999 to 2003 coordinator in the German-Polish development project on the history of mining in Prussia (1750-1865), from 2005 to 2012 chairman of the structure committee at the Marburg archive school and since 2009 chairman of the scientific advisory board to rebuild the Cologne City Archives . In 1999 he was responsible for an exhibition on the revolution of 1848/50 in Westphalia and Lippe, and in 2003 for an exhibition on secularization between the Rhine and Weser.
