Encyclopedia of German History

The Encyclopedia of German history ( EDG ) is a seemingly since 1988, continuously added special encyclopedia of German history that the concept of Oldenbourg outline of the story is created. Each volume is accordingly divided into three sections, namely an encyclopaedic overview, basic problems and tendencies in research, and a systematically organized bibliography.

The complete work published by Lothar Gall in association with Elisabeth Fehrenbach , Johannes Fried , Klaus Hildebrand , Karl Heinrich Kaufhold and Horst Möller should initially comprise 100 volumes, now it should be 110 volumes. Of these, 25 are planned for the Middle Ages, 34 for the early modern period, the rest is spread over the 19th and 20th centuries. The first volume was published in 1988. By 2006, 79 volumes had been published by R. Oldenbourg Verlag in Munich , and by 2018 by De Gruyter-Oldenbourg, another 15 volumes had been added. Several volumes have been published in several updated and expanded editions.
