Andreas Würgler

Andreas Würgler (born February 23, 1961 ) is a Swiss historian .

Live and act

Würgler studied general history and German at the University of Bern from 1981 to 1990 . After a year of study at the Free University of Berlin , he received his doctorate from the University of Bern in 1994. From 1993 to 1995 he worked for Peter Blickle . In 2005 he completed his habilitation on the subject of “The Federal Conventions in a European Perspective”. Together with Cecilia Nubola , he led an international project on petitions at the Italian-German Historical Institute in Trento about Switzerland from 2000 to 2008 (2007–2013). He held professorships in Basel (2005–2006) and Bern (2005, 2013–2014) and was a visiting professor in Zurich (2016 and 2018). Since 2014 he has been a full professor at the University of Geneva .

Würgler's main research interests are historical communication and historical conflict research .

Since 2017 he has been President of the Commission of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences responsible for the Historical Lexicon of Switzerland .
