The Wilhelm Heidsiek-Verlag is one founded in 1989 German book publisher based in Cuxhaven . The managing director and owner is Hans-Jürgen Kahle.

History and program

The publishing house was created in 1989 as a publication platform for publications by the Friends 'Association on the history of the workers' movement in the district of Cuxhaven , which was entered in the register of associations in January 1989 . Half a year later, on June 1, 1989, the association founded Wilhelm-Heidsiek-Verlag. The publisher is named after the SPD politician and resistance fighter against National Socialism Wilhelm Heidsiek , who was murdered in Neuengamme concentration camp in 1944 .

In the summer of 1989 the first publication took place with the title "Raimund Hirsch - Im KZ Lichtenburg", which already outlines the program of the publisher: The publisher sees itself as a program publisher for the history of the 20th century in the city and region of Cuxhaven. The focus is on the history of the labor movement and the trade unions in the Cuxhaven district, the time of National Socialism and the history of work and technology in the Cuxhaven region. The last subject area includes in particular the fishing industry and shipping history. In addition to books and photo books, the publisher also publishes calendars, postcards and films on these topics.

When the friends' association disbanded in 2001, the long-time publishing director Hans-Jürgen Kahle took over the business and has continued to run it as the owner since then. Kahle is continuing the publisher's program while maintaining the priorities, but had to delay the publication of new titles due to, among other things, canceled grants. The publisher produces around three to four new titles per year, including the calendar, and around 20 titles are available.
