Clemens Zimmermann (historian)

Clemens Zimmermann (born October 24, 1951 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German historian .

Life

Zimmermann studied modern history, political science and German in Tübingen , Freiburg and Heidelberg . He received his doctorate in 1981 with a study of the reforms in the rural society of the Margraviate of Baden between 1750 and 1790. His habilitation took place in Heidelberg in 1990 with a thesis on housing issues and housing policy in Germany from 1845 to 1914. He held professorial positions in Heidelberg, Marburg and Darmstadt before taking on a professorship at Saarland University in 2000 .

Clemens Zimmermann's research focuses on the social and cultural history of town and country, the history of state practice and social and cultural policy, as well as the individual, group-specific and scientific perception of new technologies and media. In addition to context-oriented case studies, the focus is on comparative approaches.
