Wolfgang Kaschuba (born January 1, 1950 in Göppingen ) is a German cultural scientist and folklorist .

Career

After graduating from high school in 1968, Kashuba began studying at the University of Tübingen . First he studied political science and English, later he switched to empirical cultural studies and philosophy. In 1982 Kashuba received his doctorate. In 1987 he completed his habilitation in empirical cultural studies / folklore at the University of Tübingen. Since 1992 he has been Professor of European Ethnology at the Humboldt University in Berlin. From 2015 to 2018 he was director of the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM), whose department "Integration, Social Networks and Cultural Lifestyles" he continues to head.

Kaschuba is editor of the series Berliner Ethnographische Studien und Zeithorizonte in LIT Verlag Münster.

Since 2014 he has been a board member of the German UNESCO Commission, where he heads the specialist committee for culture. He is a member of the Migration Council and a member of the BerlinForum of the Stiftung Zukunft Berlin .
